A descendant of one of Kate Moore's two Newfoundland dogs was in attendance for the memorial dedication ceremony held in Black Rock, Conn., Sept. 19, 2015. In 1871, at age 59, the U.S. government officially appointed Moore as the Keeper of the Fayerweather Lighthouse, a task she had already performed for 47 years.
