In this issue of the BYTE magazine, the Praetorian Soldiers, Civilians, past and present, celebrate the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade’s tenth anniversary. The 780th MI BDE officially unfurled its colors for the first time during a ceremony at Fort Meade, Maryland on December 1, 2011, and ever since, the brigade’s mission has increased in scope, scale, and complexity. The unit is known among U.S. Army Cyber Command, U.S. Cyber Command, and senior Army leaders as a world class cyberspace operations force capable of providing a ready force, developing capabilities required to meet expanding requirements, and delivering effects at the time and place of the operational commander’s choosing.  less

Since August 15, 2017, more than 900 Army National Guard Soldiers have been assigned to Task Force Echo, working alongside the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade to conduct cyberspace operations in support of U.S. Cyber Command and the Cyber National Mission Force.  less

The BYTE magazine’s focus is on the company grade officers serving in the Cyber Branch. These young officers are the future leaders of the Information Advantage enterprise. Cyber officers direct teams of professionals and technicians that defend Army cyberspace and take actions against adversaries to ensure commanders’ freedom of maneuver in the cyber domain. As leaders of Cyber Mission Force teams, Cyber officers are on today’s electronic front lines, planning and executing defensive operations to protect Army networks and systems from attacks in cyberspace. They also plan offensive operations to disrupt and degrade adversaries’ abilities to use the cyber domain.  less

As the Brigade Commander and Command Sergeant Major have traveled throughout the organization’s footprint and beyond, they have been impressed by the diversity, selfless service, talents, and resilience of the Praetorian Soldiers, Civilians and their Family members. This BYTE magazine will focus on what motivates and interests our Soldiers, Civilians and their Family members – those events happening after duty hours and outside of the workplace. Their interests and hobbies range from 3D printing to homelabbing; Dungeons & Dragons to fishing and softball; culinary arts, cultural food delicacies to wood carving; as well as, mentoring students in STEM, coaching youth sports, volunteering at food banks, and building houses for Habitat for Humanity. We have a talented extended Praetorian Family – some are exceptional volunteers, others are diving instructors, some excel at CTFs, eSports and gaming, while others have a huge YouTube following, or write books in their off-duty time.  less

AvengerCon features presentations, hacker villages, training workshops, and much more. Also, in this issue: the Task Force Echo transition between the Army National Guard’s 124th Cyber Protection Battalion and the 123rd CPB; the activation of B Company, 915th Cyber Warfare Battalion; and two cyber Soldiers join the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.  less

THIS ISSUE OF THE BYTE magazine is focused on the Brigade’s Army Civilian work force and the theme is “Building the Future through Change.” Greg Platt, the Brigade’s Senior Cyber Advisor, stated “change will impact the organization whether we acknowledge it or not. Effective organizations must evolve to meet the needs of future requirements.” Platt challenged the Army Civilians throughout the organization to submit an article describing how their organization, or the ‘Information Advantage’ enterprise in general, must evolve to be successful.  less
