US Bank donates to nonprofit foundation supporting Guard families

BISMARCK, N.D. - Today, members of US Bank presented a check to North Dakota National Guard leadership, further showing the company's support for North Dakota's soldiers, airmen and military families.

Shanna Johnson and Tim Hennessey, representing US Bank, presented a check for $3,250 to Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, at US Bank in Bismarck. Including today's donation, the bank has donated $21,250 to the nonprofit North Dakota National Guard Foundation.

"Without employer and community support, we would not be able to serve as well as we do, whether it's working in our communities, supporting natural disaster relief across the state or serving abroad," Sprynczynatyk said. "We have more than 100 North Dakota Guard members overseas this holiday season, and donations such as these help remind them that they are not forgotten and that, in an emergency, their families will have support."

"US Bank has a proud tradition of supporting our military, whether through the US Bancorp Foundation, the bank's statewide Salute our Service Members Initiative, or by employing veterans in our workforce," Hennessey said. "We are very proud of the North Dakota National Guard. This gift is just a small token of our appreciation for everything the Guard does for our state, for our country, and around the world."

The foundation supports two causes set-up to help North Dakota's military families during times of greatest need. The North Dakota National Guard Emergency Relief Fund provides financial support during sudden and unforeseen emergency situations for Guard members and their families when they're struggling following an accident, illness, fire, theft or natural disaster. The North Dakota National Guard Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS, supports the national TAPS initiative to provide services to those who have lost a loved one serving in the Armed Forces. North Dakota uses the funds to help cover transportation costs for families to attend the annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp for Young Survivors over Memorial Day weekend in Washington, D.C.

Donations to the foundation may be directed to either cause or to the general fund to go to the area of greatest need. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all gifts to the foundation are tax-deductible. The foundation has no paid employees or professional fundraisers, instead relying on volunteers. Donations are accepted online and by mail to North Dakota National Guard Foundation, P.O. Box 5511, Bismarck, N.D. 58506-5511. For more information, contact Holly Gaugler at 701-333-2079 or holly.a.gaugler.nfg@mail.mil.
