Community partnerships enable gift giving

WITCHITA, Kan. - The holiday season is in full swing, and it's time again for McConnell's annual toy giveaway.

The giveaway will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Dec. 3 to 7, 2012, at Building 338.

This year, approximately 400 toys were donated for Airmen E-5 or below and their families.

Items were donated by the Friends of McConnell, the Retired Officers Wives Association and local businesses.

"[The giveaway] really builds a sense of community for those who give and receive," said Dennis Chrisco, 22nd Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center community readiness consultant.

Last year, approximately 330 gifts were passed out to families during the event.

A variety of toys, books and gift cards for children, for ages newborn to 18, are available. Each person can choose one toy for each child in their family as well as a small item for a stocking.

"[Economic] times are hard right now and events like this really help out," said Sue Berk, toy giveaway volunteer. "We want to make sure everyone gets a present and that the kids don't get left out."
