ND Guard identifies two 818th Engineer soldiers killed in Afghanistan

BISMARCK, N.D. - The North Dakota National Guard Public Affairs Office will host a media availability with the parents of Spc. Tyler J. Orgaard, 20, of Bismarck, who was killed in Afghanistan on Monday, Dec. 3. Josephine (Josey) and Jesse Orgaard will be available for media interviews at the North Dakota Guard headquarters at Fraine Barracks from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6.

Media representatives may attend in person or call 701-333-2980 (no password) beginning at 11:15 a.m.

Orgaard was one of two soldiers assigned to the N.D. National Guard's 818th Engineer Company (Sapper) killed in action Dec. 3 while on duty in Afghanistan. Also killed in the attack was Sgt. 1st Class Darren M. Linde, 41, of Devils Lake, N.D. Spc. Ian Charles Placek, 23, also of Bismarck, was wounded in the attack and is listed in stable condition at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. They were conducting route clearance operations when an improvised explosive device struck their vehicle in southern Afghanistan.

Orgaard joined the North Dakota Army National Guard shortly before his graduation from Bismarck's Century High School in 2011. This was his first overseas deployment.
