JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING, D.C. - Iowa City’s own Stacy Newbrough Ascione is slated to perform for more than 53 million estimated spectators as part of The United States Air Force Band’s appearance at the 86th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Nov. 22 in New York City.

Senior Master Sgt. Ascione joined The United States Air Force Band in 1997 as a flutist after completing a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, and a Master of Music degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

“I’m extremely excited about being a part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” said Ascione. “Watching this parade on TV has been a Thanksgiving tradition in my family, so having the opportunity to actually take part in it is a real thrill. I’m profoundly grateful and proud to be serving my country as both a musician and an airman. It is an honor to represent the dedicated professional men and women of the world’s greatest Air Force through the universal language of music.”

The parade begins at 9 a.m. EST, and will be broadcast on many television stations.

Located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, D.C., The United States Air Force Band’s mission is to honor those who have served, inspire American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and positively impact the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States of America.
