'First Lady of the Marine Corps' Recommended Reading List' book signing

QUANTICO, Va. - A book signing for the “First Lady of the Marine Corps’ Recommended Reading List” was held today at the Marine Corps Main Exchange aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Bonnie Amos, wife of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos; Holly Schere, co-author of “Help! I’m a Military Spouse” and “1001 Things to Love about Military Life;” and Shannon Maxwell, author of “Our Daddy is Invincible” and “Big Boss Brain” spent the afternoon signing their books and speaking with military spouses.

The reading list features books for children and adults geared toward helping military spouses and children cope with the stresses of a military life style.

“It’s a wonderful life,” said Amos, “but it comes with a lot stresses that we all face at some point. The books on the list are a great resource from creditable sources who offer helpful advice.”

Many of the books on the list were authored by military spouses and are another way for spouses to help spouses.

“The lifestyle we live has a lot of ups and downs,” said Suzanne Benson, a military spouse for eight years who just purchased the books. “The books help you to see what to appreciate, even when you are going through those difficult times.”

Schere said many spouses didn’t choose this life; they just fell in love.

“If you’re not meant to live this life by yourself,” said Schere. “We enter this world together and we are meant to go through it together."

Amos is scheduled to appear at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on Oct. 26.

The official list of books is available on the Marine Corps Association website at www.mca-marines.org.
