MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. - The Lady Warriors volleyball team from Quantico Middle/High School is working on a new offense to help earn them the No. 1 seed in their conference. The team is currently No. 2 in their conference with a winning record of 5-2.
At the start of the season head coach Robert Hume had the team focus on serve and serve receive.
“You can’t win at volleyball if you don’t know how to serve and serve receive,” said Hume. “Now we have to step up our game offensively though.”
The team is focusing this week to a new offense and getting a strong back-row attack.
“We will be playing the No. 1 team in the conference soon, and we are going to have to make some changes, and not easy ones,” said Hume. “Sending them free balls won’t win us the game and they have strong blocks, so we have to have a faster offense on hand.”
Senior Hayley, a middle hitter for the Lady Warriors, and senior Kelsie, one of the three setters, are both hopeful for the upcoming games.
“We have already made a huge improvement this season,” said Kelsie. “Now we just have to apply the new skills we are learning.”
Both Hume and his senior team leadership is focused on being a team and what’s best.
“I told them at the beginning of the season that it’s about the team,” said Hume. “We even try to wear the same shirts to practice.”
“If we are confident in ourselves and each other, we can win this conference,” said Hayley. “The most important thing is being there for each other and building each other up. If someone shanks the ball and starts hanging their head, someone else needs to get their spirits up if they can’t shake it off themselves.”
The Lady Warriors will be meeting the No. 1 seed in the conference, Wakefield Country Day School on Oct. 29 at Quantico Middle/High School starting at 4 p.m.
