Robots can be used to diffuse UXOs, which is why it is essential
that team leaders are taught how to use these tools in their line of
work.
“We use robots so we don’t have to be down there,” said Fries, an EOD team leader currently with the 319th EOD out of Camp Murray, Wash. “It’s the team leaders job to take that last walk, suit up and even then there is a significant risk.”
