KABUL, Afghanistan – Gen. John R. Allen, commander International Security Assistance Force, joins Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi, Afghan National Army Chief of Staff, in congratulating the Afghan National Army on its establishment of the Afghan National Army Special Operation Command Division.

The mission of ANASOC is to organize, man, train, equip and lead the ANA special operations forces and to provide responsive and decisive action in support of the security objectives of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

With the growth of the commandos and special forces within the ANA, and with the addition of special aviation and elite mobile strike force elements, ANASOC grew from a brigade-sized element to the first division-sized special operations force unit in Afghan military history.

“The establishment of ANASOC is another important step in the increasing capability and capacity of the ANSF,” said Allen. “This trained unit represents some of the most elite and brave fighting forces in the ANSF. They continue to demonstrate their ability to conduct operations throughout Afghanistan and when engaged win decisively.”
