QUANTICO, Va. - More than 100 members of industry and academia attended the DoD Non-Lethal Weapons Industry Day June 22 at the Alfred Gray Research Center, Quantico, Va. Hosted by the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, the initiative provided a better understanding of future research and technology development procurements.

Considerable efforts are being made to bring together government and industry to discuss opportunities in U.S. DoD non-lethal weapons development, according to Colonel Tracy Tafolla, USMC, Director, Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, Quantico, Va.

"The importance of this industry day is two-fold: it affords the government an opportunity to stimulate industry interest and convey our anticipated research and technology development needs; and it provides industry an enhanced communication vehicle to ask pertinent questions to the government, enabling a better understanding of the potential scope of future research and technology development procurements," Tafolla said.

The day-long event provided a Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Program overview and additional information about the technical focus areas listed in a recent Request For Information. "The event serves as an early opportunity for industry to examine business teaming and learn more about anticipated requirements," said Alicia Owsiak, Deputy Division Chief, who assisted in coordinating the event.

The DoD Non-Lethal Weapons Program provides our operating forces escalation-of-force options, minimizing casualties and collateral damage. The Commandant of the Marine Corps serves as the DoD Non-Lethal Weapons Executive Agent.
