ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued two surfers in distress near Cannon Beach, Ore., Monday.<br /> <br /> Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, located in Astoria, received a report from Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue at approximately 1:35 p.m., that two surfers were trapped in a small cove at the north end of Indian Beach at Ecola State Park, just north of Cannon Beach.<br /> <br /> Sector Columbia River diverted an already airborne MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene. The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 1:45 p.m., and located the surfers on a rocky outcropping on the north side of the cove.<br /> <br /> The helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer from a hover approximately 125 feet above the rock and successfully hoisted both surfers to safety.
