CLEVELAND, Ohio – It’s Game Day, and the United States Marine Corps has landed in Cleveland for Marine Week 2012! A celebration of community, country and Corps, the weeklong campaign will showcase the unique aspects of America’s Marine Corps through more than 60 events including civic engagements, military demonstrations, band performances and much more.

Monday’s Highlights

WHERE: Public Square, Voinovich Park, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Gateway Plaza

WHEN: Monday, 11 June 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Marine Week Proclamation Ceremony:
11 a.m. - Mayor Frank Jackson officially proclaims Marine Week in the city of Cleveland at Public Square.

Equipment Displays:
11 a.m. – 8 p.m. – Marines will display state-of-the-art ground vehicles, aircraft, weaponry and equipment displays;

Marine Week Cleveland Mural:
11 a.m. - Marine artists will continue the weeklong project of painting the Marine Week Cleveland mural at 5601 Carnegie Avenue.

Vietnam Wall Replica & Ohio Flags of Honor – Marine Honor Guard:
12 – 8 p.m. - The largest replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be on display as well as a traveling memorial of more than 400 full-sized flags memorializing Ohio’s fallen service members at Voinovich Park.

Wreath Laying Ceremony:
1 p.m. – a U.S. Marine Corps bugler and color guard will honor fallen service members at Voinovich Park.

Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Demonstration:
3 – 4 p.m. – Marines will conduct hand-to-hand combat exhibitions at Public Square.

Military Working Dog Team Demonstration:
4 – 5 p.m. – Marines will showcase their four-legged partners’ capabilities at Public Square.

Market Square Evening Performance:
6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – The Marine Corps Base Quantico Band will perform at Market Square Park, on the land where the 100-year-old West Side Market once stood.

INTERVIEW REQUESTS: Interviews are available and encouraged with any of the Marines working throughout the community. Photo opportunities abound, including aboard and inside static equipment.
