COMSUBSOUTH change of command ceremony

NAPLES, Italy - Today, Allied Maritime Commander Vice Adm. Rinaldo Veri, Italian navy, hosted the change of command ceremony of Commander Submarines, Allied Naval Forces South at his Headquarters.

Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander, U.S. European Command, Adm. James Stravidis, United States Navy, presided over the ceremony where Rear Adm. James G. Foggo, III United States Navy, handed over his Command to Rear Adm. Frederick J. Roegge, United States Navy.

During the same ceremony Roegge assumed responsibilities as director of Operations, Intelligence, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and Deputy Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet.

Outgoing Commander Foggo was awarded by Stravidis with the NATO Meritorious Service Medal for his supporting efforts in U.S. and NATO operations throughout Europe and Africa.

Commander Submarines Allied Naval Forces South along with Commander Maritime Air Naples are the two former NATO Commands, classified as "Special Entities" responsible to COM MC Naples for the conduct of maritime submarine and air operations.
