Media Advisory

What: Army Reserve soldiers from 982nd Combat Camera Company (Airborne) will be conducting Water Survival Training to increase their soldiers’ water survivability during combat. The paratroopers will be submerged in full gear and must successfully demonstrate their ability to survive in the water, exit from underneath the canopy of a collapsed parachute as they would during airborne jumps in open water and execute small boat recovery during capsizing drills. The message is also to emphasize water/small boat safety during the summer.

When: Saturday, March 19, 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Where: Six Flags White Water, 250 Cobb Parkway N, Marietta, Ga., 30062.

Contact: Media interested in attending this event, please contact Army Sgt. 1st Class Kenny Scott at email kenny.o.scott@usar.army.mil, office phone 404-469-4102, or cell phone 719-439-7061, no later than March 18 at 2 p.m. to coordinate entrance to Six Flags White Water and escort to the event.

Instructions: There will be room for satellite trucks. Media should use the employee entrance of Six Flags White Water in the White Water Business Center off Gresham Road.

Directions: Take I-75 N to exit 265. Turn right off the ramp onto N. Marietta Parkway. Turn right at the first red light (Gresham Road). After crossing over I-75, turn right into the third drive marked White Water Business Center. Go straight through the stop sign and turn left at the Security Post. A Six Flags White Water employee will direct you to park and contact a media escort. http://www.sixflags.com/whiteWater/info/directions.aspx

Additional Information: Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. With a detachment near Fort Bragg, N.C., the 982nd Combat Camera Company (Airborne) is one of only two Combat Camera units in the Army, and the only one in the Army Reserves. The Airborne soldiers (which are both male and female) have been on year-round deployments since October 2003. They support U.S. military units from around the globe in support of wartime operations such as Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as peace time operations such as humanitarian assistance (engineering and medical aid to Central America) and disaster relief (earthquakes in Turkey, nuclear-biological-chemical response), providing photography and video documentation. Soldiers are trained in advanced photography, videography and multimedia editing. Many soldiers also have specialized experience in Combat Infantry, Airborne, Air Assault, and Special Forces with multiple deployments under their belts. They have 40 vacancies for paratroopers looking for a new home.
