LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River in Arkansas because heavy rain in Northeast Oklahoma has caused flows to rise.
Advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Currents become swifter and stronger and large debris is carried downstream that could threaten the safety of pleasure craft.
Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith were about 95,000 cubic feet per second and climbing. Flows at Ormond Lock and Dam at Morrillton were 80,000 c.f.s. and climbing. Flows on the entire length of the Arkansas River are expected to be above 70,000 c.f.s. by May 4.
