SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. — There's a new command chief at Scott Air Force Base.
Chief Master Sgt. Marty Anderson arrived this week from F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., where he was also the command chief for the past two years.
Anderson's experience as a command chief, first sergeant, as well as, 26 years of military experience has led him to create four philosophies.
1) If you don't want to know the answer, don't ask the question. Anderson describes himself as very straightforward.
2) We don't pick and choose which standards to follow or enforce--this keeps airmen out of trouble.
3) A command chief's job is to take care of everybody and fight for what is right. His door is always open for questions, advice, issues and concerns.
4) Meet all standards, on and off duty, and be accountable for all actions. Don't make excuses, correct the behavior or error, learn from it and move on.
"The best part of my job is identifying and removing roadblocks that allow our great airmen to do their job," said Anderson. "Whether it's an airman, NCO, senior NCO, officer or civilian, I enjoy solving issues that make an impact or difference. I especially like it when I can use my experience to help someone see a situation from a different perspective.
"My job is to work with the wing commander's agenda and work at all levels to enable combat capability in order to make a positive impact to mission and quality of life," said the chief who joined the Air Force in the precision measurement equipment laboratory career field. "I expect everyone to go out of their way to help someone else in their unit, across functions or on the base."
The chief also has advice for any airman.
"Get involved and have the desire to make a difference, remembering who you are, what you do and represent," he said. "Remember you wear two nametapes on your uniform; represent both names well, on and off duty."
Anderson has had numerous assignments, but this is his first to Scott.
"It's a beautiful base, area and community. Kim and I appreciate the warm reception and gracious hospitality we have received and are excited to be a part of the team," said the Council Bluffs, Iowa, native.
