Afghan security forces conduct second day of operations

KANDAHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Afghan army and police forces conducted the second day of security operations across southern Kandahar province with emphasis near the village of Kenjakak.

Security forces discovered and destroyed two caches with weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices during operations April 2, 2012.

The security operations are intent on disrupting insurgent activity in the area and to validate Afghan security forces’ ability to conduct complex ISAF-independent operations.

More than 3,400 Afghan security forces conducted the operation with elements from the 1st Brigade, 205th Afghan National Army; Police from Dand, Daman, and Panjwa'i; Afghan National Civil Order Police; and National Defense Services.

The operations in southern Kandahar provided Afghan security forces leaders with an opportunity to address local security issues with local residents in preparation for spring operations.

Afghan security forces planned, coordinated and executed the operations independent of ISAF with ISAF members of Task Force Arctic Wolves serving only as advisers.
