MARYSVILLE, Wash. - The 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command held a ceremony to commemorate the opening of a new Army Reserve Center.

On April 1, 2012, the U.S. Army Reserve officially open its Marysville
Armed Forces Reserve Center. The public was invited to join in attending the ribbon cutting ceremony that began at 1 p.m. at the Marysville AFRC, 13613 40th Ave. NE in Marysville, Wash., with a reception following inside the center. The commissioning is directed by the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act and hosted by the 88th Regional Support Command and the 364th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) (Rear).

The official party included Maj. Gen. Glenn J. Lesniak, commander of the 88th Regional Support Command, Col. Phillip S. Jolly, commander of the 364th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) (Rear), Jerry Nehring, mayor of the city of Marysville, and Barbara Tolbert, mayor of the City of Arlington.

Soldiers from three Army Reserve and National Guard Centers were consolidated to the new Center in Marysville. Many of the Reserve soldiers who served at Fort Lawton in Seattle, which officially closed its doors Feb. 25, 2012, are now based in Marysville and will continue their service at the new center.

Reserve soldiers from Everett’s Maj. David Oswald Army Reserve Center which also closed have relocated to Marysville AFRC also. The Washington State National Guard relocated the guardsmen serving at the Everett Army National Guard Armory to the new Center as well.

A cannon salute kicked off the ceremony, and music was provided by the 204th Army Band based out of Vancouver, Wash.

We invited the public to join us as we celebrated this historic occasion.

The ceremony lasted about 60 minutes and was followed by a reception and guided tours. Military equipment and vehicles assigned to the Reserve units at the AFRC were on display for the public. Residents of the surrounding neighborhood were advised that military cannons fired blank rounds during the ceremony.

The approx 34 million dollar facility will house several Army Reserve and Army National Guard units and took 22 months to build. Construction began on September 11, 2009.
