AUGUSTA, Ga. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces a new reservation policy at Clay Hill Campground, one of 13 Corps-operated campgrounds at the J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake Project.
Campers can now make reservations either online or by phone for 10 of the 17 campsites at Clay Hill. In previous years, reservations were not accepted for this area.
Reservations should be made through the National Recreation Reservation Service by calling 1-877-444-6777 or by visiting www.recreation.gov. Reservations should be made no later than two days before arrival. The remaining sites will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Site fees range from $16 to $20 per night.
The campground will be open this year from March 30 through Sept. 3.
Clay Hill campground is located on the north side of Georgia’s Little River Section of Thurmond Lake. The campground is accessible from Mistletoe State Park by boat, and is located four miles away from Amity Recreation Area—one of the largest recreation areas on the lake offering beaches, picnic sites, reservable group shelters and a fishing pier.
The campground has seven primitive campsites and 10 improved campsites with water and electrical hookups. The park also includes showers, restroom facilities, a dump station and a boat launching ramp.
Next year, the Corps plans to make all 17 campsites available for advance reservations, in an effort to increase usage of the campground and improve public access to sites.
