VICKSBURG, Miss. - Four soldiers from the 412th Theater Engineer Command served as volunteer science fair judges for local elementary school students.

The contest was held Feb. 22-23, at the Vicksburg Auditorium. The 412th judges were Maj. Tim Gothard, Chief Warrant Officer Phillip Medford, Master Sgt. Christopher Kraft, and Sgt. 1st Class Kerry Blackmon.

With presentations on topics ranging from Angry Birds to floating eggs, young scientists showed off their hard work for a chance to advance to the state level competition. “It was a good opportunity to get out in the community and meet people,” said Blackmon. “The kids were excited… A lot of good ideas out there.”

The 412th TEC, which has been apart of the contest for several years running, donated two trophies to the event that represented the “best of fair” awards for first- through third-grade and fourth-through sixth-grade competitors. The winners of the local competition will advance to the state competition, to be held in March at Jackson State University.
