BALKH PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Government officials from across northern Afghanistan gathered to talk about Afghan Local Police in Mazar-e-Sharif, Feb. 5.
The meeting was held at Camp Jordania to prepare the attendees for a larger, nationwide conference being held in Kabul the following day.
Provincial Chiefs of Police Maj. Gen. Sameh Qatra, Brig. Gen. Assdullah Sherzad, and Brig. Gen. Abdul Khliq were in attendance. In addition, the Director of Criminal Section, North Zone 303 Pamir, Ministry of Interior Affairs, Brig. Gen. Anham Hoshmind and numerous other officials representing different government agencies were also at the meeting.
The mentors and trainers for the respective ALP and coalition Special Operation Forces, Task Force 1 Panther, hosted the assembly.
Lt. Col. Curtis Buzzard, Task Force 1 Panther commander, praised the efforts of the generals in assisting with the growth of ALP in northern Afghanistan.
“When I arrived, there were less than 300 trained ALP,” he said. “Now there are close to 1,800.”
The attendees studied the Ministry of Interior Decree regarding the rules and regulations governing the ALP. The members also took turns sharing best practices they had discovered in providing logistic and command support to the ALP in their provinces.
