USS SAN ANTONIO, At Sea – As the saying goes, a building is only as strong as its foundation, and for the units aboard the USS San Antonio, the need for a strong foundation is just as important.

The Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., based Combat Logistics Regiment 25 boarded the USS San Antonio Jan. 17 to pave the way for units such as the 2nd Tank Battalion, Marine Corps Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167 and Combat Logistics Bn. 26 for participation in Exercise Bold Alligator 2012.

The regiment was in charge of the onload and offload of personnel and equipment, as well as, providing all logistical needs of the various units to include berthing spaces, tires and communication needs.

“As the operational headquarters, it is our responsibility to ensure the operation goes smoothly and use the resources available to us to get units what they need,” said Staff Sgt. Shannon Robinson, the communications chief with CLR-25.

Various computer programs allow units to communicate their needs to the CLR-25 headquarters elements, who then forwards the requests to the correct unit and ensures the requester’s needs are met, explained Robinson, a Lake Charles, La., native.

To assist them in their mission, CLR-25 brought their own computers, servers and wiring gear to set up a Marine network in a Navy space, where they worked hand in hand with the Navy in their adjacent offices.

“When setting up our own network, we ran into typical issues with our communications set up,” Robinson explained, “but due to the diligent work of the communication Marines the issues were resolved quickly and we were able to move on to the next set of tasks.”

Cpl. Dennis Taylor, a CLR-25 unit management control center chief, added that working with the Navy was a smooth experience and something he is glad to have been able to do on his first operation aboard a ship.

The regiment will continue assisting units in getting anything they may need while underway in preparation for the beach assault portion of Exercise Bold Alligator 2012.
