FARYAB PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan Local Police repelled an insurgent attack against a checkpoint in Qaisar district, Jan. 10.
The ALP checkpoint near Khwaja Kinti village came under attack by an estimated 10 insurgents using small-arms.
The ALP immediately returned fire, and radioed the ALP in nearby Owimast village for reinforcements. Owimast responded with a force 60 ALP to assist the attacked checkpoint.
Together, the two groups of ALP forced the insurgents to withdraw their attack.
A coalition special operations forces team leader who advises the ALP praised their efforts and coordination.
“This attack highlighted their ability to coordinate a combined defensive maneuver to the combat insurgents,” he said. “The ALP from Khwaja Kinti and Owimast mutually supported each other.”
According to the SOF team leader, the demonstrated level of cooperation is a key component in ensuring future security in the area.
