URUZGAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the Gizab District Development Assembly and the Gizab district governor conducted a development shura in Gizab district Dec. 22.

During the shura, the assembly discussed plans for the refurbishment of the Helmand River Bridge, which the district governor announced he would oversee, and the work would be completed by Afghans.

“The Gizab DDA shura and DGOV have made a unilateral decision to take full responsibility of repairing the Helmand River Bridge in Gizab,” said a coalition special operations forces representative. “This decision to take ownership of the repair project without coalition assistance is a step forward in the Gizab government’s progress toward self-sustainment and independence.”

After the shura, the “Voice of Gizab” radio station distributed 240 radios to DDA members.

“The Gizab DDA represents all five major tribe groups in Gizab,” said the coalition SOF representative. “This radio distribution will allow for equal exposure to the “Voice of Gizab” among Gizab’s tribal diversity.”
