BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan -- Staff Sgt. Jojo Roberts is currently deployed to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan and is a member of the 455th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron.
Back in the states, he’s a member of the Maryland Air National Guard’s 175th Security Forces Squadron at Warfield ANG Base. He is a native of Baltimore.
While deployed to Bagram, Roberts serves is posted at Bagram’s vehicle entry point and inspects more than 500 vehicles entering the base each day.
This is Roberts’ first deployment. Inspecting that many vehicles comes with a certain amount of risk, but Roberts expressed pride in the mission he was sent here to do.
“This is an ever evolving mission,” Roberts said. Not day is the same. “It’s been good for me to experience different duties and responsibilities.”
When he returns home to Maryland, Roberts is looking forward to spending quality time with his family and taking a much deserved vacation.
The 455 ESFS is responsible for the security on Bagram Air Field and the more than 30,000 service members and civilians that are assigned here.
They stand watch in dozens of guard towers, check the credentials of thousands of local civilians gaining access each day, and protect one of the busiest flightlines in the world. These airmen work with civilians, service members from other branches of the military, as well as international partners like South Korean military police to defend Bagram Air Field 24 hours a day.
