CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Navy Law and Order Detachments I and J transferred authority to the 368th Military Police Company here Oct. 31.
“Here at Area Support Group-Kuwait, the Navy provided a law and order detachment for the last seven years,” said Navy Cmdr. Patrick C. Carey, Navy Law and Order Detachments I and J commander and Colorado Springs, Colo., native. “This has been an extraordinary assignment, one that I, and the sailors, have appreciated.”
Carey said the Navy Law and Order Detachments’ assignment over the last seven years helped build camaraderie and teamwork among sailors and soldiers.
“For most of us, this was our first joint experience,” explained Carey. “This deployment has taught this group of sailors and the soldiers we can trust and work efficiently together and that our different backgrounds and techniques compliment each other.”
Army Reservist Capt. Hill C. Leon Guerrero, 368th MP Company commander, and Santa Rita, Guam, native, said the Navy’s Law and Order unit did an outstanding job and his unit looks forward to carrying on the mission.
“Over the past 10 days we completed a smooth and seamless transition with our Navy MP counterparts as we prepared to assume the military law and order enforcement mission in Kuwait,” said Leon Guerrero. “My MP’s are now patrolling all eight military camps throughout Kuwait from Camp Buehring in the north, to Camp Arifjan in the south. We are motivated and ready to work.”
As final salutes were rendered and cake was cut and shared among sailors and soldiers, Leon Guerrero took the time to thank the Navy Law and Order Detachment for a job well done over the better part of the last decade.
“Cmdr. Carey, you and your team have done an outstanding job bringing my soldiers up to speed and familiarizing them with the duties and responsibilities expected of MP’s under ASG-K,” Leon Guerrero stated. “I thank you for your professionalism, and most especially for ensuring a swift turnover of mission from the Navy to the Army.”
The 368th MP Company is dedicated to continuing the work of the Navy Law and Order Detachment and shaping the future of Third Army by executing law enforcement missions throughout Kuwait.
