BADGHIS PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Afghan National Police academy enrolled five Afghan Local Police members in the Qal-e Naw district, Sept. 21.

In the past, there has been a separation between the local police, the national police force and the Afghan government officials. The enrollment of local police members into the academy will strengthen the ties between the newly-established ALP in the Darrah-i Bum village, the ANP and district leadership.

“Until now, there has been difficulty linking them,” said a coalition Special Operations Forces team member.

The Badghis provincial chief of police accepted the Darrah-i Bum ALP into the Qal-e Naw ANP academy with the hopes of training the ALP members to provide better security to their village and work symmetrically with ANP forces.

“This will establish a bridge of trained [officers] who will ease the Darrah-i Bum village ALP’s eventual transition to becoming ANP officers.”

The knowledge and skills acquired at the ANP academy by the five ALP members will be brought back to Darrah-i Bum and disseminated to the ALP force there. The training will also increase the legitimacy and credibility of the ALP in Darrah-i Bum.

The ANP academy-trained ALP members will develop connections with their ANP brethren that will solidify a future relationship, strengthening security and development in the Darrah-i Bum village area.
