KABUL, Afghanistan — During a security operation throughout the week in Shahid-E Hasas district, Uruzgan province, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol killed several insurgents, including an insurgent leader.

During the operation, Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces spotted and were engaged by insurgents from several fighting positions. The ANSF and coalition patrol returned fire, resulting in the death of several insurgents to include the group’s leader.

The leader was responsible for coordinating prison escapes, facilitating improvised explosive device and suicide bombing attacks, and supplying lethal aid to insurgents.

Several insurgents were detained by ANSF forces for further questioning.

A combined Afghan and coalition security patrol discovered a weapons cache in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, Oct. 27. The cache consisted of one rocket propelled grenade, one RPG booster and five 82mm recoilless rifle rounds. The weapons were seized by the security force for safe disposal at a later date.

In Deh Rawud district, Uruzgan province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a weapons cache while conducting a security patrol, Oct. 27. The cache consisted of five 107mm rockets, which were seized by the security force for safe disposal at a later date.

Finally, in Nahr-E Saraj district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security patrol detained an insurgent leader during an operation that occurred throughout the week. The insurgent leader was a tactical commander responsible for planning attacks against ANSF and coalition forces. The operation also seized a quantity of small arms, which were safely destroyed on site.
