DOVER, Del. - Ryan Newman will start 20th in the AAA 400 Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway, Oct. 2.

Driving the No. 39 U.S. Army ROTC Chevrolet in Saturday's time trials, Newman covered the all-concrete Monster Mile in 22.878 seconds at 157.356 mph.

"I felt the Army ROTC Chevrolet stuck better than in yesterday's practice, but it appears we still have to make more changes," said Newman, a three-time race winner at Dover. "We need to get the car a little better. We'll go over all the data, talk to our teammates and then come up with a race plan."

Newman's teammate, Tony Stewart, qualified 28th with a 22.955 at 156.760 mph.

Newman enters the Dover race 11th in points, 34 markers behind Stewart, who leads in the Chase standings.

The pole winner was Martin Truex Jr. (159.004 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Kurt Busch, Paul Menard, Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch.

Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at 1:00 pm.
