URUZGAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Security Forces planned and conducted a unilateral operation in the Khas Uruzgan district, Sept. 26, which led to the removal of five insurgents and the discovery of several weapons.

Plans for the operation began after ANSF operating in the district received information regarding insurgents’ ability to operate freely in the Bogachar Valley using roads and trails in the area to move weapons, fighters and explosives.

Afghan security force leaders, including Khas Uruzgan’s District Chief of Police, Sardar Wali, developed a plan to conduct a coordinated ambush against insurgent fighters with guidance on tactics and planning from their coalition special operations force mentors.

Upon receiving authorization from Wali, ANSF successfully ambushed the insurgents, which resulted in the deaths of five enemy fighters and the recovery of four AK-47’s and one radio, according to official reports.

ANSF and coalition SOF personnel are currently determining the identities of the enemy fighters.

No civilians were injured or property damaged during this operation.
