BAGHDAD – The Baghdad provincial chairman, accompanied by the deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Embassy and the deputy commanding general – support, Multi-National Division – Baghdad, visited the recently cleared district of Adhamiyah for the first time Sunday to see the progress made in Baghdad security.

Mu'een Hameed Abd al-Majed, along with Ambassador Daniel Speckhard and Brig. Gen. David Halverson, walked through the streets of the district and talked to local residents about the need for essential services and improved security.

The trip culminated at the Adhamiyah District Advisory Council, where the leaders discussed specific quality of life projects recently undertaken with the DAC leadership, which was made possible by the reduction in violence in the beladiya.

Iraqi army and police, supported by MND-B Soldiers, secured the area in August and made way for the introduction of badly needed essential services. The security plan, part of Operation Together Forward, is an Iraqi-led endeavor to end sectarian violence by reducing murders and kidnappings in focused areas identified for having a propensity for violence.
