Family guy: fourth brother earns title

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. -- Pfc. Seth Morgan, with Platoon 1066, Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, is the fourth person in his family to follow the tradition of joining the Corps’ ranks.

Morgan’s father, brother and stepbrother all began their journey at the same place – Parris Island – where Marines are made. His father, Philip Morgan, served from 1981-1985 and left the Corps as a corporal. His brothers, Cpl. Justin Morgan and Lance Cpl. Jonathon Morgan are both currently serving at Camp Lejeune, N.C. His stepbrother, Pfc. Jonathan Daedmond is currently serving in Roanoke, Va.

“I wanted to join the Marines because they’re the best,” said the 18-year-old Ridgeway, Va. native. “I wanted to be recognized – I wanted to be able to tell someone I was a Marine and be respected.”

Although his relatives told Morgan recruit training was no walk-in-the-park, he decided to enlist after high school.

“My family warned me about boot camp but that just pumped me up even more,” he said. “It was more difficult than I expected but I made it through okay.”

Morgan enlisted into the Corps in hopes to become a successful infantryman yet is still unsure how long he wants to serve. He signed up for four years and will decide toward the end of his first enlistment.
