PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan - U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Daniel Reilly, Company B, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard, and Winchester, Mass., native, received the Order of Saint Maurice award on Forward Operating Base Gardez, Paktya Province, Afghanistan Aug. 29.
The award officially inducts the recipient into the National Infantry Association and honors the highest standards of integrity, moral character, professional competence and dedication to duty.
“The Infantry is known as the ‘Queen of Battle’ because in the game of chess, the queen is the most versatile, deadly and combative game piece that can move in any direction and take on any foe and be victorious,” Reilly said.
Reilly, an infantryman for 23 years, transitioned from the Marine Corps to the Army in 2001. He is currently on his third deployment since joining the Army.
“We’re lucky to have a leader like 1st Sgt. Reilly as part of Team Paktya,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. James Forand, Provincial Reconstruction Team Paktya commander, and a native of Auburn, Mass. “His dedication to the military and our team has set a shining example for others to follow.”
