Marine, Rochester, NY, native continues to honorably serve his country

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Rochester, N.Y., native and Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School class of 1997 graduate, Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Ronald D. Sampson Jr. raised his right hand, and pledged to continue honorably serving his country during a reenlistment ceremony aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., Aug. 23.

Sampson, who entered military service in December 1998, is currently serving as the training chief at Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group in Virginia Beach, Va.

He has been in at MCTAG since December 2009, which is shortly after the unit was established. Since his arrival, he has deployed numerous times in support of security cooperation training in South America and Europe.

Before checking into MCTAG, Sampson served as an infantry platoon sergeant with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment located in Camp Pendleton, Calif. During his time at this unit, Sampson was forward deployed in support of Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

His parents Ronald and Cheryl and siblings still reside in the greater Rochester, N.Y., area.

Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates U.S. Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities to include assessments, planning, related education and training, and advisory support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Force capacity and capability in order to facilitate U.S. Marine Corps and regional Marine Forces component command SC objectives.
