KABUL, Afghanistan – During a security operation in Maiwand District, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader and two of his associates, yesterday.

The detained leader coordinated attacks and distributed lethal aid to insurgents in Panjwa’i District.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban facilitator and one of his associates in Kandahar city, Kandahar province, yesterday. The facilitator was responsible for the acquisition and distribution of lethal aid to insurgents in the Zhari and Panjwa’i Districts.

In Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, an Afghan and coalition combined security force detained several suspected insurgents during a security operation targeting a Taliban leader, yesterday. The Taliban leader builds roadside bombs, provides logistical support to other leaders and reports to leaders in Pakistan.

Also in Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol detained two insurgents in Nad ‘Ali District, Tuesday. The combined patrol seized 159 pounds (72 kilograms) of opium and a suicide vest. The detainees were taken in by Afghan forced for further questioning, and the narcotics were safely destroyed on site.

Finally, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security search for a Taliban facilitator in Shah Joy District, Zabul province, yesterday. The targeted facilitator is responsible for conducting roadside bomb attacks and coordinating direct attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
