MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - From reference books to electronic sources for a college essay to childrens’ story time, the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Marine Warrior Library offers copious services to the local military community.
“We support the educational and professional needs of the Cherry Point community, and try to enhance their lives by doing so,” said Suzanne Shell, the director of the Cherry Point library.
According to the air station order 5070.1E, the mission of the station library is to acquire, organize, and make readily available media and services for educational, informational, professional, and recreational needs of Cherry Point residents.
The library features many educational programs that help military families with hectic schedules. Such programs are listed as follows: online tutoring, multiple mediums for learning a language, an e-library featuring e-books for rent, both electronic and paperback college preparation materials, several reference libraries, a summer reading program and much more.
Opened from 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday, the library is available to military personnel both active duty and reserve, their dependents, retirees and their dependents, civilian employees and students enrolled in off-duty education programs. Also, the library is opened from 9 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. Saturdays, and 1-8:45 p.m on Sundays.
Located at building 298 on E street, near the Devil Dog gym and the station chapel, the library has various educational items that suit the needs of all ages.
There is a gaming center aimed for families, a ‘tween’ center for young teenagers, a story reading section designed for young children, and even a quiet room intended for families that wish to watch a movie or just relax for an evening.
The library also features a book shelf dedicated to the Commandant of the Marine Corps reading list, which provides Marines with an intellectual framework to study warfare and enhance their thinking and decision-making skills.
