Death of a Fort Hood soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood officials have released the name of a soldier who died July 24. He was found unresponsive in his barracks room here.

Spc. Ralph Edward Dawson, 41, whose home of record is listed as Trevorton, Pa., entered active-duty service in October 2007, as a military police specialist. Since April 2008, he was assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, here.

Dawson deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from December 2008 to December 2009.

Dawson’s awards and decorations include an Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.

The incident is under investigation.
