FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood officials have released the name of a soldier who died July 12 after a terminal illness at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan Howard Monzingo, 28, whose home of record is listed as Safford, Ariz., entered the military in April 2002 as an AH-64 Attack Helicopter repairer, and deployed to Afghanistan with 1st Battalion, 285th Aviation Regiment, Arizona National Guard. He entered active-duty service in August 2005, and was assigned to 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade.

Monzingo's awards and decorations include the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the NATO medal.
