Corps awards contract orders for Joplin temporary housing

JOPLIN, Mo. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers July 1 awarded two orders against standing contracts to build temporary housing sites for Joplin-area residents displaced by the May 22 tornado.

TAB Construction Company of Canton, Ohio, received a contract order in the amount of $2,615,013.26 to build pads and support infrastructure for temporary housing units at the Jasper South community housing site.

PRUS Contracting LLC of Cincinnati, Ohio, received a contract order in the amount of $3,263,316.43 to build pads and support infrastructure for temporary housing units at the Jasper North community housing site.

Both sites are located just south of Joplin Regional Airport. The Corps maintains a number of standing contracts to more quickly put contractors to work during an emergency response.

“What we’re planning to provide here are comfortable, livable communities, not just places for people to sleep, since this will be their home until their communities and houses are rebuilt,” said Col. Daniel Patton, commander of the Corps’ Joplin tornado recovery mission.

The Corps is managing construction of the temporary housing sites at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as part of the federal government’s unified national response following the tornado that struck the city May 22. Together, the two sites will be able to accommodate up to 346 temporary housing units.
