KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – U.S. Special Forces killed seven insurgents in two separate locations of southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, May 4.

Four insurgents were killed in eastern Kandahar’s Arghistan District after a Special Forces team from Special Operations Task Force – South began taking fire from multiple armed insurgents during a routine nightly security patrol of the area.

The Special Forces team coordinated an attack with the help of an air weapons team, killing four insurgents. Afterward, the team found and cleared two IEDs where the engagement occurred.

On the same day, in Kandahar province’s Panjwai District, Afghan commandos and U.S. Special Forces killed three insurgents who were trying to emplace an IED. Shortly afterward, the joint Commando-Special Forces team located and destroyed the IED components.

This latest IED marks the seventh roadside bomb that SOTF-South teams have cleared in Panjwai in the last five days.

No civilian casualties and no property damage resulted from these operations.
