CAMP ZAMA, Japan – Soldiers with the Medical Department Activity, U.S Army Japan, prepare for mobilization to Camp Sendai in support of Operation Tomodachi, April 6.
The MEDDAC will establish an Army medical aid station to provide health care needs in support of Joint Force Land Component Command.
The JFLCC’s mission is to provide command and control to units executing land operations that support the Japan Self Defense Force and their mission in providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the thousands of displaced Japanese citizens in the Tohoku region.
“We will provide medical treatment to Servicemembers and the local population affected by the disaster,” Staff Sgt. Daniel Hood, non-commissioned officer in charge of MEDDAC USARJ said.
The MEDDAC will be relieving Marines, assigned to the III Marine Expeditionary Force, from Okinawa, Japan, who are currently providing medical treatment in the Sendai area.
“We will be taking six chests initially to aid in our mission,” commented Hood. “Some of the medical equipment that we will take consists of trauma bandages, orthopedic, cold weather supplies, and resuscitation supplies.”
Daily operations will consist of sick call, which is day-to-day medical treatment. The MEDDAC will also be conducting four school clean-ups that were impacted from the recent earthquake and tsunami that impacted the region.
