KABUL, Afghanistan - NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan has a new home.
Harrison House officially opened for business March 30, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Royal Marine Bill Dunham, Chief of Staff for NTM-A at Camp Eggers in Kabul.
Harrison House is named in honor of U.S. Army Col. James W. Harrison. Harrison, who was assigned to the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., died as a result of small-arms fire at Pul-e-Charkhi prison, just east of Kabul on May 6, 2007. Harrison served as a mentor to Afghan troops who were providing security for the prison.
Shafiq Jan, owner of New Jan Group Construction, joined Dunham in the ribbon cutting. New Jan Group was the contractor on the project.
The building has come a long way since being used as transient housing a year ago. After a renovation and complete reworking of the electrical system, it now features 25 miles of cable along with new walls, floors and windows, fresh paint and roof repairs.
The funding for the project was allotted October 2010 when the contract was awarded to New Jan Group Construction.
“The contractor had 120 days to complete the project, but with weather delays, an electrical inspection and design changes, the building was completed March 28,” Dunham said. “We are now looking forward to moving in.”
In addition to being the new NTM-A headquarters, the building also houses the Public Affairs office.
