KABUL, Afghanistan – At least three members of an International Security Assistance Force dismounted patrol were struck by a civilian vehicle in Kandahar District, Kandahar province today. Other members of the patrol fired on the vehicle after assessing the driver’s actions as a deliberate attempt to attack the force, according to initial reports.
The vehicle crossed a ditch and made a turn toward the patrol before striking the ISAF service members. After members of the patrol fired, the vehicle went into the ditch and flipped over. As a result of the incident, the driver was wounded and a passenger was killed. The vehicle also struck and killed a nearby pedestrian. Two other civilians nearby were wounded in the incident.
The driver was medically evacuated to an ISAF medical facility. ISAF and Afghan forces will assess the situation and more information will be released when available.
