PAKTIYA, Afghanistan – Soldiers from 2nd Commando Kandak, combat advised by soldiers from Special Operations Task Force – East, discovered an insurgent cache in Jani Kehyl district, Paktiya province, Feb. 21.

The Afghan-led force was conducting a patrol when they identified a suspicious individual carrying burlap bags with what appeared to be weapons inside.

The patrol observed him placing the bags in a concealed location and then followed him after he departed the area. The individual, later identified as a known insurgent improvised explosive device facilitator, was found soon after hidden under a bush in close proximity to where he had placed the bags.

The Commandos detained the individual after discovering a cache of rocket-propelled grenades, AK-47 ammunition and assault rifles in the burlap bags.
