CAMP MIKE SPANN, Afghanistan -- Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division’s, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion conducted a humanitarian assistance mission Jan. 8, which provided winter clothes for children at the Bibi Fatemah Orphanage in the Nahr-e Shahi District of Balkh province in northern Afghanistan.

The Bibi Fatemah Orphanage is located in the Ghorimar Village where the Nahr-e Shahi District Government has not been able to reach those in need.

This humanitarian assistance mission bridged a gap between the local community and the government of Nahr-e Shahi by providing 165 children, ages 6 to 18-years-old, with winter clothing.

While the supply and delivery of winter clothes was coordinated by Wahididullah’s Afghan Zai Company and ISAF, the distribution was coordinated by the Orphanage Head Master, Amad Sultani and Sub-Governor Abrah of the Nahr-e Shahi District.

Each child received one bag of clothing consisting of a jacket, gloves, winter hat, and a scarf from the Afghan Zai Company.

“This project had a positive impact with the people in this area that will last a life time. I am truly grateful for all your support especially during these cold months,” said Sultani.

Through the combined efforts of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and ISAF, the people of Nahr-e Shahi District are able to provide for the basic needs of the community.
