KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban suicide attack facilitator who was involved in the construction of suicide vests and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, during an operation in Kandahar province Thursday.
The targeted individual is directly linked to recent suicide attacks and is known to have housed suicide attackers. He also facilitated the movement of weapons and homemade explosive precursors in
preparation for attacks in Kandahar City.
Intelligence tips led the security force to a tent outside Kandahar City to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the tent peacefully, and then the joint security force cleared and secured the area. After initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force detained the facilitator.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
