KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed Mullah Jamaluddin Saturday, reportedly one of the possible candidates to become the new shadow governor for Badghis province after the former, Mullah Ismail, was killed Wednesday in a joint operation.

Mullah Jamaluddin had facilitated the improvised explosive device and weapons movement throughout Badghis province

The Afghan and coalition force's deliberate campaign to disrupt Taliban operations in Badghis and neighboring Faryab provinces has resulted in six Taliban senior leaders killed, including the shadow governors for Badghis and Faryab provinces, and one captured, during several operations over the last two weeks.

"The Taliban has unsuccessfully attempted to establish illegal, shadow governments in northern Afghanistan," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "These operations are significantly reducing Taliban influence throughout the region and returning it to the people of Afghanistan and the legitimate government they elected."

Intelligence sources tracked Mullah Jamaluddin traveling in Morghab District. Three armed individuals threatened the security force during the operation. The security force responded, killing Mullah Jamaluddin and his two accomplices. After the area was secure, the security force searched the area and positively identified Mullah Jamaluddin.
