Coalition forces make weapons cache finds in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan - Coalition forces made three large weapons cache finds in the Paktika and Khost provinces of eastern Afghanistan Friday.

A coalition force discovered and destroyed more than 200 kilograms of explosive material in the Yosuf Khel District of Paktika province.

The force found nine 23kg containers of explosives in a cave.

An explosive ordnance disposal team destroyed the explosives and sealed the entrance to the cave to deny the enemy the use of the cave as an explosives cache site.

A joint Afghan and coalition patrol discovered two weapons cache in the Shamul District of Khost province.

One cache consisted of 35 82mm recoilless rifle rounds, three rocket-propelled grenades and three improvised explosive devices. The second cache consisted of a 73mm recoilless rifle with eight rifle rounds, four 80mm recoilless rifle rounds, a medium machine gun and a light machine gun.
