MOSUL, Iraq - Rubble from old bombed out Iraqi police stations in the Palestine and Al Arij neighborhoods was removed by local workers March 15.
Work to remove the damaged cement and rebar material from the destroyed IP stations began on Feb. 22. Several local workers were employed by a short term job program in order to carry out the task.
With the decision of what to do with the locations left up to the local community, it will be interesting to see how the citizens of Palestine and Al Arij use these formerly bombed out locations. Through encouragement, the local populace may use them for new businesses or community parks.
MAJ Fallah, police chief of South East 6 police station, is interested in rebuilding a new police station at the location in the Palestine neighborhood.
Regardless of how the land will be utilized, the significance is that the citizens of Mosul are removing the rubble of yesterday's regime to make room for the prosperity of tomorrow.
